If you have wondered all the way here, you might already know me (or my pantry) via my homonym Instagram account. If that is the case: ciao, hello! How lovely of you to join me here!
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a brief introduction: my name is Martina, a 34 years old Italian graphic designer originally from a small town in the Venetian countryside, currently living in a Victorian home in Stoke Newington, North-East London. I have been calling London my home for more than ten years now, since I moved here as a wide-eyed 23-year-old student, lured in by the fascination of the Big City and the smell of freshly baked scones.
My husband Joe and I bought our home together just before the C-word hit the world, thus embarking on our first renovation project. We moved in between lockdowns, and that’s when The Venetian Pantry was born: a place to document my newly born love of interiors and my old, much more deeply rooted love for food.
So, now that we got the pleasantries out of the way….why Substack?
As much as I love Instagram as a platform, I have come to realise it is not built for long-form conversations. I am hoping this is the place to do that.
Here’s what you can expect:
Interiors chat: my ramblings around what makes a house a home, favourite resources and suppliers
More of my classic recipes. Easy to make, comforting people-pleasers.
Conversations with people whose work, talent or journey I admire
London tips: my go-to Restaurants + things I enjoy in town
Travel tips from the UK, Italy and beyond!
Completely free (for now)
I have to admit this is quite new to me: I have never held a blog before (if one doesn’t count my raging teenage diaries). As I find my feet with serial writing, I can’t promise you any consistency in posting (yet – but I’ll be working on it!), so I think it is only fair I should keep this newsletter completely free, at least for now.
If you enjoy the things I put out, however, I would so appreciate it if you would leave me a comment or feedback, and share my Substack with your loved ones to help me grow this community.
Thank you for joining me. I hope you’ll enjoy the ride.
Love,
Martina
