I love this Martina. Substack as a commercial endeavour is a challenge, as you say the subscriptions soon add up. It becomes untenable to financially support lots of individual writers no matter how much you want to. I don’t know what the solution is but in the meantime I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed many of your posts 💙

Oh Lauren I so appreciate you saying that! I am not sure what the solution is either, maybe a collective subscription like Spotify? Although that would need the introduction of advertisements for it to work, and I’m not sure that’s the right path either…

I think it always shows when people are genuinely invested in what they’re writing, Martina. To be absolutely honest, I signed up to read about interiors as you are so gifted and that’s my passion. I’m not a traveller but still get massive enjoyment out of your other articles. I also think you’re right about Substack; it can quickly become very expensive. The writers’ responses to that seems to be, well you should pay for good writing, you don’t expect to get a newspaper for free. I one hundred percent concur with that but when I buy a newspaper I buy several opinions/articles for the one charge. That’s not how Substack works and for many it’s unaffordable which is very sad. I think your pages is amazing and I love it. 🤎

What would I do without you Moira?! You have always been my number one supporter on here, I can't tell you how grateful I am to you! I appreciate how expensive Substack quickly becomes, I think you make a very valid point. That's why I always strive to give some content for free, and truth be told so far most of my content has been free...but to deliver once a week (as per Substack's recommendation) it's quite a commitment in terms of time, and there comes a point for many of us where we need to make it profitable or we simply wouldn't be able to dedicate so much time to it! Thank you again for your sweet words as always!

You are so welcome, Martina, thank you too. It must be such a conundrum; the people I follow clearly put so much time and effort into what they write but if you’re not getting a decent return on that time investment, well I can see why people leave. I think Substack needs to look at its charging model.

I love all your posts, Martina. It's sometimes frustrating when you put a lot of time and effort and see very little (literal) pay-out. I think that it's an achivement in itself to keep on showing up. As I told a fellow Substacker the other day "the minute we stop enjoying doing this, we will quit". It's about building consistency but also finding joy in sharing your thoughts and passions.

I love your style of narrating, your astheic and all the good tips you share on design. So I'll keep on reading ❤️

Thank you darling Elisabet. Your support has been so precious to me! It's definitely been a mostly positive journey and I have found a new love for writing, so as you say, as long as I enjoy it and I can fit it in, it's worth doing regardless!
